Job Synopsis

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Governance Director to design and build a data governance program at MCC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing data governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure that data is managed effectively, securely, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Data Governance Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to establish best practices and drive the adoption of data governance policies and culture throughout the organization.
At MCC we define data governance as the creation and enforcement of standards, policies, and processes to ensure that MCC uses information in its systems effectively and in alignment with MCC’s values and all applicable regulatory requirements. Managing data quality, security, and access, it also delineates which parties can take action with data assets and ensures appropriate data protection.

Essential: Bachelor’s or in Computer Science, Information Management, Organizational Change and Development, or related field.
5+ years of experience in data governance or related fields such as data management, compliance, or information security.
Strong understanding of change management principles, with a focus on building and promoting a healthy data culture in complex, decentralized, faith-based organizations.
Strong understanding of data governance principles, policies, procedures, and standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks and vulnerabilities and develop effective solutions.
Experience in implementing data governance tools and technologies.
Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Understanding of regulatory requirements such as PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.

Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S.  or Canada. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:Professional certification in data governance such as Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP),  Certified Data Management Professional; (CDMP), or DAMA
Masters degree in related field

Key Responsibilities

Specific Tasks and Duties:Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, structures, and standards in alignment with industry best practices, MCC values, and regulatory requirements.
Create and maintain a data governance framework that encompasses data quality, security, privacy, and compliance.
Create and execute a data mapping and scoping plan that facilitates the creation of an organizational data registry.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain data governance documentation, including data dictionaries, data lineage, and data quality rules.
Manage the implementation of data governance controls and tools to ensure data is managed effectively and securely.
Conduct regular data governance assessments to identify areas of improvement and make recommendations for corrective action.
Develop and deliver data governance training to ensure that employees understand the importance of data governance and their role in maintaining data quality and compliance.
Act as a liaison between organizational stakeholders, IT, and compliance to ensure that data governance requirements are met and communicated effectively.
Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and industry trends related to data governance and provide recommendations for adjustments to policies and procedures as necessary.
Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis

Supervision: This position does not directly supervise any staff at this time.

Travel expectations: 10-14 nights away per year to attend team meetings, orientations, learning, and networking opportunities.

Physical Activity/Demands:Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.

Salary Details

Base salary: $90,939.02. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $101,043.35 USD based on previous experience.
Benefits

MCC US: Medical, dental and vision, 23 days paid vacation, sick time and 10 holidays/year. Life insurance provided, as well as long and short term disability coverage. The retirement plan, with MCC contribution of 7%, begins after six months of employment.

MCC Canada: Salary and benefit information will be provided prior to offer.
Location Description

Hybrid or Remote in a state in the US where MCC is a registered employer or a province in Canada where MCC is a registered employer.
